This is on the hwy west of Cody toward the east gate of Yellowstone and there are several campgrounds, private and public, along the hwy along the Shoshone River. The trees weren’t leafed out yet so it was still wintery conditions and even snowed while we were there. It was pre-summer season (early May) so there were several spots available without a reservation. This campground turned out to be a real gem.

Stayed at the Wapiti campground because Buffalo Bill SP was too windy and open. It is America's heritage and a good thing to be familiar with. Part of the experience is the cowboy culture that you will be immersed in.

It is multicultural (lots of cowboys South of the Boarder in this world, and we've seen last names of all types in professional rodeos!) and, though limited, women have earned a respected place in it.Īnyway, go, have fun. The sport of Rodeo is traditionally overtly Christian. If it makes you uncomfortable, just imagine how we feel when we go to a big, liberal city or simply turn on the TV. This is our culture, and this is Rodeo culture. Well, imagine going to San Francisco and writing a review about all those folks who do things you don't believe in, and who talk badly about Conservative values. Now, as for references to Jesus and jokes about Democrats. It was fun to be among people who were enjoying a rodeo for the first time. The spirit of the Night Rodeo is different in that there are a lot of folks who are new to rodeos attending, but the riders are just as serious about what they are doing. It is great to see professionals, but seeing some get started is equally fun. We love seeing the rodeo riders in all stages.

They are usually cowboys who put on a clown costume as part of the safety team and tries to entertain while keeping those cowboys safe. Try doing that sometime and be funny at the same time. He (usually) puts his life on the line to distract the animal long enough for the rider to get to safety. The clown is there to protect the rider first, and, if possible, amuse the fans. Ropes will be dropped and few will stay on a bull long enough to earn points.Īnd another thing. It is one where the new guys and gals can get a start. The nightly rodeo is an all-comers rodeo in that, if you are 18 and want to get on a bull, you can sign a waiver and have at it-well, maybe not that easy, but it is not a professional rodeo. The hubby and I love rodeos of all kinds, so when we saw the Cody Night Rodeo, we, of course, had to go.
